Every time you save a deck it now asks you to type a description for it. What is the purpose of this? Also it is no longer possible to duplicate a deck without exporting and then reimporting and you have to open a deck to delete it. It feels like I have to fight against the bloated ui to get it to do what I want. You could already sort decks before so it seems like there would be no downside to just reverting the changes.
Whoa, reverting is a very strong action, in general we want to go forward, not backward Now let’s visit your concerns;
- the purpose of long description field is to store deck strategies. it’s visible when “viewing a deck”.
- duplicating deck: doesn’t require export/import. after making changes just use 'save as…" button which will save it as a new deck.
- removing row buttons (incl. clone and delete) was necessary due to ui framework limitations when adding name and format filters.
I don’t understand the purpose of having a place to “store deck strategies” Maybe someone has some sort of use case for this but it does not seem worth the downside of adding an extra click every time any player saves a deck
Save as also prompts for a deck description and requires you to type out a new name to differentiate between that deck and the old one so this is not a great replacement for the copy feature
Again you could already sort the decks so the new filters don’t seem to have any purpose. It just makes it so one less deck fits on screen at a time.
I understand that you don’t like the idea of “reverting” but in this case it doesn’t make sense to me. To think of it another way, if the current ui were the old one and you were to replace it with the one that was used previously, the change would have been a good way to “go forward”. The different uis should be evaluated on their own merits rather than being biased toward the time that each was created.
If you are unwilling to revert the changes please change the color of the background for the text editor so that it is not so much bright than the rest of the site
I understand the workflow frustration, but let me clarify a few points:
Deck descriptions: While we didn’t get tons of requests for this, long and rich description fields are standard in most online deck builders across card games. They improve user-generated content, help with deck discovery, and encourage more player interaction around deck strategies. The “extra click” trades a small inconvenience for organizational benefits.
Duplication: You’re right about “Save As” requiring a new name, but this actually prevents the common issue of having multiple “[Clone]” entries cluttering your deck list. The description field here is optional - you can leave it blank for quick duplicates. Removing row actions including Clone was necessary for the filtering system to work properly.
Filtering: These might seem pointless for smaller collections, but they’re essential for users managing 20+ decks across multiple formats. We’re seeing good feedback from competitive players who maintain extensive deck libraries.
Moving forward: The core changes address real scaling issues for active users. We could potentially make the description field optional for quick saves, but the filtering system and streamlined UI are here to stay.
The platform needs to serve both casual and power users - sometimes that means short-term friction for long-term benefits.
I should fix the white background though, good point!
A deck description is a nice optional bonus to offer, but being prompted to write one each time you save is annoying. Instead, we’d prefer if you moved the description to a separate button not tied to the save feature.
I just started on here (so you could say I’m a “newbie” to pokedeck metadata), but I actually liked this; since it gave me an opportunity to give partial information publicly (while keeping my deck private). But I think I’d agree that it’s an “optional” feature.
