Need ruling input for some bug reports

Rulings still needed

  1. 17119 and 17040: Should a Ditto (VM 97) copying an Evolution Pokémon count as Evolved for Mew (WBSP 47) Neutral Shield? Currently it doesn’t.

  2. 17068: Gardevoir ex (DF 93) Imprison vs Shiftry ex (CG 97) Dark Eyes. Which applies first? The reporter says Dark Eyes triggers before Imprison disables it.

  3. 15881: Electivire (DP 3) Giga Impact vs Mr. Mime (MT 30) Airy Wall.

    • The optional [L] Energy discard happens before damage, so Electivire has 0 Energy when Airy Wall checks and the damage is prevented.

    • The reporter says Airy Wall should be checked before the discard.

  4. 15786: Does a Poison Knockout at the Pokémon Checkup count as “during your opponent’s last turn” for Cynthia’s Feelings (LA 131)? Currently it doesn’t.

  5. 16425: Can Murkrow (SV 72) Switcheroo move Energy Gain (PL 116) onto a non-SP Pokémon? Currently it can’t.

  6. 15887: Can Charity (G1 99) reduce damage to 0 before Koga’s Muk (G2 26) applies its power? Currently Muk’s power applies first.

  7. 15636: PlusPower (BS 84) on Erika’s Jigglypuff (G2 69) Pulled Punch when the Defending Pokémon has no damage counters. The reporter expects 40 and sees 10. I haven’t tested it, so it may be a bug rather than a ruling.

  8. 16478: Should the BLW version of PlusPower also boost damage to your own Active Pokémon, as in self-damage? This is a question posted in the thread.

Already solved on my reading, worth a second look

  • 17249: Skarmory ex Metal Gravity on retreat. I counted Cessation Crystal on the new Active Pokémon as blocking the body, because the body resolves after the retreat.

  • 17201: Unown G blocks an Energy being moved, and the Energy is discarded. This is deliberate in EnergySwitch.java, which cites a ruling.

Yes.

Imprison should prevent Dark Eyes from placing damage counters on Gardevoir. Dark Eyes isn’t supposed to place the damage counters until after the opponent’s Pokémon has finished using its power, by which point Dark Eyes itself would already be blocked by Imprison.

  1. 15786: Does a Poison Knockout at the Pokémon Checkup count as “during your opponent’s last turn” for Cynthia’s Feelings (LA 131)? Currently it doesn’t.

No. The between turns Pokémon check phase is not a part of either player’s turn.

15887: Can Charity (G1 99) reduce damage to 0 before Koga’s Muk (G2 26) applies its power? Currently Muk’s power applies first.

Yes. During this era, the effects of offensive trainer cards (attached to/placing effects on the attacking Pokémon) are calculated and applied before the effects of defensive Pokémon Powers—though in this case Muk’s Power isn’t modifying the damage anyway. If Charity reduces the damage being dealt to 0, then the defending Pokémon is not considered to have taken any damage, so Koga’s Muk’s power wouldn’t trigger.

  1. 15636: PlusPower (BS 84) on Erika’s Jigglypuff (G2 69) Pulled Punch when the Defending Pokémon has no damage counters. The reporter expects 40 and sees 10. I haven’t tested it, so it may be a bug rather than a ruling.

Sounds like a bug. If the target Pokémon doesn’t have any damage counters on it, then this should do 40 + 10 = 50 damage with a PlusPower.

  1. 16478: Should the BLW version of PlusPower also boost damage to your own Active Pokémon, as in self-damage? This is a question posted in the thread.

Yes.

I skipped the Electivire and Murkrow questions because I’m not sure without looking them up. I haven’t studied much Gen 4.

for murkrow and energy gain:

energy gain should be moved and discarded here, attachment restrictions only apply to attachments from the hand. any effects that would move a card from any zone other than the hand onto an otherwise illegal target (like pow! hand extension or electrode-ex’s extra energy bomb) will resolve, but the attached cards will be immediately discarded

relevant ruling:

Q. Can I use Murkrow’s “Switcheroo” attack to move an opponent’s “Energy Gain” to a non-SP Pokemon?
A. Yes you can, but if the Pokemon you move the Energy Gain to is not a Pokemon-SP then the tool would be discarded after it gets moved. (Nov 18, 2010 PUI Rules Team)

for electivire:

mr. mime still doesn’t take any damage- the attack damage is calculated first, and then any effects of that attack resolve after

relevant ruling:

Q. If Garchomp [C] Lv.X has Special Energy cards attached and discards all of them when using its “Dragon Rush” attack, can it do damage to a Scizor that has the “Red Armor” Poke-BODY?
A. No. First choose which two energies to discard, then do the damage (before any other effects), then you actually discard the energy at the end of the attack. So it will still be attached at the point when damage would be done, but the damage will be blocked. (Aug 19, 2010 PUI Rules Team; Sep 2, 2010 PUI Rules Team)
