I’m playing only the very first vintage WotC formats (Base-Fossil, Base-Rocket, Base-Gym, Prop 15/3) and, after many months of doing quests and playing career games, my card collection fully enables me to play any archetype I want (the only “annoying” part was collecting MewTwo promo card which is highly mandatory for many powerful meta archetypes, but for the rest I could purchase any card needed with enough patience and grind).
At this point, I don’t need anything more because as I said before I already own all cards needed to play all the decks I want, so I keep amassing a whole lot of Ink points (at this time, I have something like 40k Inks).
Since all of the boosters I’m buying are only BASE ones (verdict, elements) and I’m not having so much luck in finding the single foil cards that I would need for the archetypes I love playing (Articuno for Rain Dance, Scyther in Haymaker, Clefable, Wigglytuff, etc.), finding a whole lot of duplicates that I already have every time and thus converting them into Ink, then I thought: would it be feasible to be able to buy these cards from the shop, even if for an insane amount of Inks?
It would kinda destroy the incetive to buy packs, maybe if you pull the holo than you can assemble the same 1 that would seem fair. If we had trading that would help, I have 4-5 of both Clefs and Wiggs but only 1 copy of Dragonite and Scyther.
Hey! It’s a great idea to implement a new mechanism to get those holo-foils, which has been a big deal to complete 4 copies for Career fans.
While “more ink” method would work just fine, I feel we ought to do it in a more “fun” way to add some depth to Career.
I liked the recent Bill’s PC mechanic in Vending Machine; it acts like a token to unlock new cards. How about a new “token” to upgrade any card to its holo-foil version (given that there is one)? This token could be awarded for completing certain quests or bought/earned via other means. I am curious on all your proposals on how we can design this.
At the present time I’m sitting on a giant pile of Inks, so that’s why I proposed the Ink method… anything else would be viable as well, I suppose, given it’s a somehow reliable method
Upgrading the non-foil to foil working in a similar way to “Bill’s Pc” looks like a great option. Using ink in addition to using this “promo card” could be used to balance it.
Yeah. I also buy only Base packs now, hunting for these foils: Wiggly, Moltres, Muk, Mr. Mime and Snorlax. Sitting around > 20k ink but I could sure dissolve a lot of unneeded cards to make it to 40 - 50k. Progress has been quite slow lately, it might take several years to complete sets with the current pace :D. You can have like 8 foil Flareons but still it would take forever to get a holo Jolteon for example.
But anyways, keeping the system as it is would sure separate the true grinders from the rest. Unless of course Patreon support makes some changes to the pull rates
